The southsea chamber orchestra
The SCO is a small chamber orchestra which regularly rehearses all throughout the year on Albert Road, Portsmouth. The SCO does not give public performances but prepares new works every week, from Corelli to Tchaikovsky. Huge repertoire, all abilities welcome.

The Portsmouth Philharmonic String Orchestra
The PPSO is an all-string chamber orchestra which performs infrequently at special concerts. This group are currently rehearsing Karl Jenkins' Palladio and Bach's Double Violin Concerto.

The portsmouth philharmonic wind orchestra
The PPWO comprises the entire woodwind division of the the full Philharmonic with additional members from the Double Basses. It is currently rehearsing Weber's Concertino for Oboe and Winds with Wendy Carpenter as a soloist.
This group is formed when specifically required for a special concert and does not rehearse throughout the year.

The SSO was founded in 1992 by a number of forward thinking musicians. Given the city of Portsmouth’s rich cultural heritage, the need for a first class symphony orchestra was recognised and so the SSO was established.
